If you have a question that isn't here, ask it in the comments and we'll get back to you asap. :3
Q] Is this game journal-based?
A: No, it is not journal-based; we'd prefer if you keep the actual playing to the comms themselves. Other than that, feel free to use the character journals as you like! They may come in handy for continuing private threads, posting information on your character, memes, and that kind of thing.
Q] So how do I play?
A: First-person posts go in the main community (
frwl_rp), third-person posts in the logs community (
frwl_logs), and network posts go in the IC Spam Community (
to____with_love).
Q] What do you mean by 'IC Spam Community' and "network posts"?
A: It means that community is designed for the characters to spam. In the setting, it's a site which all characters have access to. They can use it to post messages to each other, just say hi, spam-- as the name implies, ask questions, etc. You could even be really creative and use it to leak information, false or otherwise, for the other side. Please be aware that game rules apply, however; just like the other comms, you should remain IC, not godmod, etc.
Q] Can my character send private messages to another over this network?
A: No messages on that board are truly private. If the Russians could hack the site in the first place, after all, why wouldn't they be able to hack your posts? So please keep in mind that everything your character posts there can be seen by everyone else.
Q] Do posts to the spam community count toward Activity Checks?
A: Posts to the network community do
not count toward activity. As it
is a spam community, IC or not, we feel that it doesn't really give much by way of CR, and the majority of characters' interactions should not happen there. Therefore, we've decided it does not count.
Q] How do Activity Checks work?
A: Whenever you make a post or comment to someone else's in the main community or log community, you include your character's name tag on the post. We then use this to determine if you've been active or inactive every two weeks. Your name will go up in an activity warning post, and you will have three days to tag in before you're removed for activity.
Note: Tagging a post and then commenting in it three or four times before dropping the thread and then disappearing for almost two weeks will not count toward activity, as it's considered squatting. Also, if we see that you're only playing with one or two people in the entire game, we may consider this squatting, as well. You're here to play with everyone, so why not play with everyone?
Q] So how does the tagging system work?
A: After you've made the post or commented to it, go to edit tags and add your character's name. Because of the nature of the game and the fact that we have doubles, please make your tag in this format; "character name/code name." No two characters should have the same code name, so this is how we can tell them apart. Example:
If we have two Harry Potters, one with the codename Gryffon and one with the codename Scar, the first's tag would be Harry Potter/Gryffon and the second's would be Harry Potter/Scar. This is
very important, so don't forget!
There are also special tags you should use as they apply to the post, such as *hetsex, *m-msex, *f-fsex, *rape, *torture, and so on. If any of these things happens in the threads of a post, please add the appropriate tags. Some people like to lurk and may not be comfortable reading these things, so they act as good warnings.
Q] Can we expand on our character's backgrounds?
A: Feel free to expand on your character's background and make up little details about them, we encourage creativity! Just remember that it has to stay within the boundaries of canon. Intentionally contradicting canon makes things awkward for canonmates. Also, please keep in mind that creating an intricate relationship for characters A and B might come back and make things difficult if someone apps B later.
Q] I can play AUs, right?
A: Yes, AUs are allowed, as long as they're still recognizable. If we look at the character and have to go "who is that?", then we probably won't accept it. Good examples are genderbent/sex-switched characters, characters who're a different age than in canon, and characters with slightly altered histories.
Q] What about characters from other games?
A: This counts as an AU and is acceptable. However, keep in mind that if the character is still in the other game, you do
not get to use development from that game that happens after the character is picked up here, nor should the character have knowledge of this game in the other game.
Q] Are character doubles allowed?
A: Yes, but to a certain degree. Canon doubles such as CLAMP casts are allowed, and other doubles are allowed
as long as they are not too similar. For example, having a female and male version of a character would be fine, having the younger and older versions of the KHR cast would be fine, "Shirosaki" and Ichigo would be fine, but two canon versions of Tifa Lockheart would not.
Q] May I play more than one version of the same character myself?
A: You can play up to two different versions of one particular character. We feel that after that, it seems a little redundant.
Q] Is my character's power/abilities taken away?
A: No. But keep in mind that everyone else's are not, either.
Q] My character has a pet or cute animal/robot/etc companion. Can they keep them?
A: As long as the animal has no real speaking lines in canon, this is fine.
Q] My character has [insert item here], can they keep them?
A: As long as it was on their person or is of great significance to the character, yes. They arrive with their weapons, as well.
Q] Is Playercest allowed?
A: It is! Just don't do it excessively; the point of RP is to play with others, after all.
Q] Is using NPCs allowed?
A: Yes. There are billions of people in the world who aren't Legendaries, so it makes sense for your character to meet some! However, we ask that you don't use this too often; there's a line between using an NPC to further your goals and using one so much that it becomes an unofficial OC.
Q] Can I play dead characters?
A: Yes. In their place of origin, time goes on as if the character was never pulled away, so alive or dead, it doesn't matter. They'll be alive again upon being summoned by the Rasputin Machine.
Q] How much canon does the character need to be playable?
A: Enough for us to feel they have a distinct personality. Characters with one or two lines in their whole canon are too easily abused as glorified OCs, so we can't allow them. Sorry.
Q] I can decide how long my character has been in this setting?
A: Yes. You can choose to have them just arrive or say they showed up anywhere in the twenty year period since the war started. However, ask other players before assuming your character knows theirs if they've been around a while, otherwise that could fall into godmod territory.
Q] So does that mean that if someone else plays canon version of X who has been in the setting for a while, I can't play canon version of X who just showed up?
A: It does not. Canon characters who have been in the setting for a long time are classified as AU type 2, because simply being in the setting long enough to have changed before the game begins is a type of AU in itself. This does
not mean that someone can play 'canon version of X who's been in the setting 10 years' while another plays 'canon version of X who's been in the setting one year' and a third plays 'canon version of X who just showed up' and so on.
Q] Wait, twenty years since the war started? When did the war end?
A: Ten years ago!
Q] If my character just arrives, where will they stay? How will they eat?
A: Since Rasputin Machine is in the Echo Force base in San Fran, your character will either pop up at the base or be approached by either Echo Force or Russia depending on the affiliation listed in your application. The base provides free room and board for six months while the characters get on their feet. They aren't particularly
nice rooms, but it's not a roach motel, either. Russian Intelligence provides room and board for the same amount of time at the Legendary division's headquarters. Though, again, the accommodations are far from luxurious.
Q] What if my character doesn't speak English or Russian?
A: When Rasputin Machine summons them, it makes them able to understand. They still
hear a foreign language, but they can grasp the meaning behind it.
Q] Can my character get pregnant?
A: Pregnancy is a really big thing, but we can't just say "it never happens" when it does. If you want to do a pregnancy plot, you will need to ask the mods if you can apply. Applying involves taking a small test for us to be sure you actually know how pregnancy works before attempting it. And yes, you would need to go the entire nine months. After that your character will have a child to look after, so be aware that a pregnancy plot never actually
ends. Once you make that choice, it's a permanent responsibility for your character. A very big one.
Q] What happens if my character is killed?
A: First of all, characters should
never be killed without player permission. But if they are, Rasputin Machine will just bring them back. :) The characters don't necessarily know this ICly, and all of them should not automatically know if one finds out, however. Death is still a very ser
Q] What happens if a character is dropped?
A: ICly, they go MIA. If the same player picks them up again, they can resume play and make up an excuse for why they went missing. If a new player picks them up, they can start clean as having just arrived via Rasputin Machine.
Q] Do we all need to be on the "good" side?
A: Nope! You can affiliate with Russia, stay neutral, or be a third party trouble-maker. Whichever you think fits you and your character best!
Q] Can I play a double agent?
A: Certain established characters may reveal themselves to be double agents over time. Although rewarding, this can be a very difficult situation to play. Feel free to ask a moderator if you'd like to try this path.
Q] So how seriously do the two sides fight?
A: That depends. Keep in mind that Russia itself is no longer an enemy, because the war is over and Russia lost
a decade ago. This doesn't stop Russian Intelligence from doing things it shouldn't do, but the country is not an outright enemy. So think of it more in Saturday morning cartoon terms; both sides are serious when they're on the field against each other, but off it? There's more of a relaxed, almost friendly rivalry. Sometimes both organizations even work together to take care of a third party threat.
Q] Will my character really get to go on spy missions?
A: Yes! Missions will be posted by the "higher ups" (us) to the main community on a regular basis. They will be locked to whatever faction they are addressed to and characters may choose to take them or pass them up at the player's discretion. However, if the character goes too long without taking a mission, they'll be asked for specifically.
Q] Is my character limited to San Fran?
A: Nope, you can go anywhere. But keep in mind that many characters may not use the internet, and if you go too far for too long, you'll make yourself difficult to interact with.
Q] Since it's Earth, does that mean we can break the fourth wall, like a video game character finding the game they're from?
A: Some of this may be a little unavoidable if it's a really popular character, but we'd prefer if it didn't get out of hand.
